Options for Scattering Cremated Remains
While some families may prefer a permanent memorial, the ceremonial releasing of cremated remains, sometimes referred to as “scattering,” is an option for the final resting place. If a permanent memorial is unavailable, it is often comforting for others later on to be able to visit as near as possible to the location of the scattering. Scattering may be done in many places and may necessitate services of a third party, for example at sea or by air flight. Bringhurst and Turner can facilitate such arrangements and monitor the process. Some locales may not allow such releasing to take place, and therefore it is important for that to be looked into beforehand. Unlike scattering on public land, cemeteries having memorial gardens may offer a place that will remain unchanged by development or construction, where families can visit to remember their loved one.
The Reflection Garden at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, which includes an opportunity for inscription designating permanent memorialization, offers families a practical alternative for ceremonial releasing of cremated remains in a public area. Families may have all or any portion of their loved one’s cremated remains released in the Reflection Garden and permanently memorialized by an inscription on a granite book. Located near our historic crematory and chapel, the Reflection Garden is a natural setting of mature trees, seasonal plantings, with an elegant fountain completing this beautiful and peaceful resting place. A granite Book of Life sits stylishly in our garden, in which your loved one will be permanently memorialized. The cost of $550 includes a ceremony in our garden, if desired led by a family member, the reverent releasing of the cremated remains, and engraving in the Book of Life. Our Family Service Representative is available to help coordinate and execute this service for your family. |
