What is green burial?

A "green" or "natural" burial is one where biodegradable or environmentally friendly urns or caskets are used, bodies are not embalmed, no vaults are permitted, and natural markers are used instead of traditional monuments. Natural burial sections like the one at West Laurel Hill allow for hand-digging graves, and include indigenous grasses, trees and shrubs in the landscape.
